Mas-wrestling at the Children of Asia 2020 International Sports Games

At the Baku meeting on June 7, we discussed the preparation of junior national teams to participate in mas-wrestling competitions at the upcoming Children of Asia 2020 International Sports Games in Ulaanbaatar.

Children of Asia International Sports Games is a global world event in youth sport. These Games cover the entire Asian continent and have been held every four years since 1996 under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

The goal of the Games is to promote the ideas of Olympic movement, to strengthen international sports cooperation in promoting mas-wrestling and the development of youth sports in general.

On August 15 - 25, 2020, the 7th Children of Asia International Sports Games will be held in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. 

Age of participants - 16 years and younger.

According to the Regulations of the Games national teams of the member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia, national teams of Mongolia, Far Eastern, Siberian and Ural Federal Districts, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and city of Moscow are allowed to participate in competitions in 21 sports. Federations as well as national teams located on the Asian continent are the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Georgia, and the Republic of Turkey.

The competitive program, along with other officially recognized sports, initially includes mas-wrestling.

At the 6th Children of Asia International Sports Games, held in Yakutsk on July 13-15, 2016, 53 young athletes from five countries: India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Russia took part in mas-wrestling competitions.

Number of participants by country and medal standings:

1. Russia, Sakha Republic (Yakutia) -1: 7 participants (4 gold, 3 silver)

2. Russia, Sakha Republic (Yakutia) - 2: 7 participants (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze)

3. Russia, Far Eastern Federal District: 7 participants (1 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze)

4. Mongolia: 7 participants (3 bronze)  

5. Kyrgyz Republic: 7 participants (2 bronze)

6. Republic of Kazakhstan: 7 participants (1 bronze)

7. India: 4 members (1 bronze)

8. Russia, Siberian Federal District: 7 participants (0).

A simple statistical analysis also clearly shows how few countries were involved in mas-wrestling. Only five.

Since 2012 the International Mas-Wrestling Federation has accepted national mas-wrestling federations from 17 countries of the Asian continent as its members. To compete in Children of Asia 2020 mas-wrestling youth sports teams can be formed in the following IMWF member countries:

1. Azerbaijan Republic

2. Republic of Armenia

3. Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

4. People’s Republic of Bangladesh

5. Republic of Georgia

6. Republic of India

7. Islamic Republic of Iran

8. Republic of Kazakhstan

9. Republic of Kyrgyzstan

10. Mongolia

11. Islamic Republic of Pakistan

12. Republic of Tajikistan

13. Republic of Turkey.

14. Republic of Uzbekistan

15. Republic of the Philippines

16. Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

17. United Arab Emirates..

There is also a potential opportunity to send their participants to the Children of Asia for Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China, Syrian Arab Republic and Japan.

The International Mas-Wrestling Federation has begun cooperation with the Directorate of the Children of Asia International Sports Games, and a representative from our Federation will join the Organizing Committee of the Games.
