REGULATION

2026 North American Open Mas-wrestling Championship

among men and women

Aims and objectives

2026 North American Open Mas-Wrestling Championships among men and women is held with the aim of promotion and development Mas-Wrestling in North America. We aim to:

- Strengthen international sport relationships;

- Showcase Calgary to the International Community;

- Showcase Mas-Wrestling and Yakutian Culture to residents of Calgary and tourists;

- Determine the best mas-wrestlers of the continent to participate in the 2026 World Mas-Wrestling Championship in Kazan, Russian Federation. 

Date and venue

Competitions are held on July 9-12, 2026 Stephen Ave in Calgary, Canada. 

Program:

July 8-9, Wednesday-Thursday: Arrival Days:

July 10, Friday

8-9 am or 6-7 pm: Weigh-in and Registration

at The Strength Edge, 4828 #1 Pacific Rd NE, T2E 5S5, Calgary, Alberta.

July 11, Saturday: Competition Day

Venue: On the street at the corner of Barbarella bar on 8th ave

1:30 pm - Qualifying and elimination matches

3:30 pm – Consolation and semifinal matches

Competition will commence after the parade has concluded. Matches may take more or less time, schedule is estimated. 

Visa

Delegations which require a visa for entry into Canada, should request an invitation from info@maswrestling.ca.

Please include the following information in your request for an invitation:

- Full Name

- Birth Date

- Telephone Number

- Full Home Address

- Scanned copy or photo of passport

- Video or Photo evidence of applicants’ participation in mas-wrestling

Visa invitations will be at the sole discretion of Mas-Wrestling Canada. **** 

Management

General management of preparation of the tournament is a joint effort between the UWMWA, IMWF and Mas-Wrestling Association of Canada.

Participants

Men and women aged 18 or older are allowed to participate in the competitions at the personal invitation of Mas-Wrestling Association of Canada.

Weight categories:

- Men: 60 kg, 70 kg, 80 kg, 90 kg, 105 kg, 125 kg, 125+ kg;

- Women: 55 kg, 65 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg, 85+ kg.

Non-North American countries are permitted up to four participants per weight category.

All athletes must have sportswear according to Mas-Wrestling rules

Men – tight-fitting or loose shorts for Mas-Wrestling (red and blue), sports shoes without spikes;

Women – tight-fitting or shorts for Mas-Wrestling (red and blue), sports jersey or T-shirt, sport shoes without spikes.

Athletes are allowed to use:

- belts;

- knee and elbow sleeves not exceeding 30 cm in width;

- sport taping;

- liquid and powder magnesium chalk, no tacky. 

Insurance of participants

Participants must present proof of adequate medical insurance in Canada, otherwise he/she will be denied participation.

Competition Format:

Any category with 5 or less athletes will be round-robin format.

Categories with 6 or more athletes will be double-elimination tournament format.

Order of competitors (and byes in the case of an odd number of athletes) will be determined by a random draw.

Categories with less than 2 (two) athletes will be joined with the above category in the tournament brackets, but athletes in the lower category will still be ranked in their category.

Depending on the number of participants, a change in the system of the competition is possible.

Awarding

Top three athletes (1st, 2nd and two 3rd places) in each weight category are awarded with medals and memorable souvenirs from our sponsors. Due to visa considerations, there are no cash prizes. 

Financial conditions

Expenditures for preparation of the competition venue, purchase of sports equipment are provided by the Mas-Wrestling Association of Canada.

Visa, travel, accommodation and meals are the responsibility of the sending national federations. Pending sponsorship, some expenses may be covered.

Application for participation

Applications which require VISA invitations in the tournament indicating the number of athletes, coaches and representatives should be submitted until March 30, 2026 to account for processing times:

The final deadline for athlete applications that do not require VISA invitations will be June 30, 2026.

** All information provided will remain confidential and will be stored in the Alberta Strongman Association database. 

Participation fees

The application fee is $70 CAD will be required to participate. Payable by e-transfer when registering, or cash upon arrival. 

Applications are submitted to the Commission for registration and admission of participants, signed by the head of the national federation and a doctor, as well as the following documents for each athlete:

- passport, certifying the nationality of the participant or a representing country’s residence permit;

- life and health insurance policy against accidents (original). 

This Regulation is the official challenge to the competition.
