Everything begins with Yakutia
Yesterday, January 14, the first meeting of Presidium of Mas-Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) this year was held at the Vasiliy Manchaary Republican Center for National Sports in Yakutsk.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Federation, Anatoliy Baishev, with the participation of the Executive Director of the All-Russian Mas-Wrestling Federation, Ivan Sivtsev, the Secretary General of the International Mas-wrestling Federation, Innokentiy Grigoriev, the IMWF Vice-presidents Gennady Vasilyev and Lena Tomskaya, and the General Director of Gogo Technology Company, Dmitriy Baishev.
Two main issues were discussed on the agenda:
1. Organization and holding of Championship of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in mas-wrestling among men, women and veterans in memory of G.R. Desyatkin;
2. Discussion of the format for holding the 2026 Federation Team Cup.
The Yakutia Mas-Wrestling Championship will be held at the Modun Sports Complex on February 14–15. The strongest athletes from different districts will compete for the right to join the republic's national team under the guidance of head coach Alexey Agapov to participate in the Russian Championship on March 21–22 in Neryungri.
The highest-level mas-wrestling competition—the World Championship—will be hosted by the Russian Federation after a long break. Currently, the host city is being coordinated. The first candidate in this lineup is the city of Kazan. The capital of the Republic of Tatarstan has extensive experience in hosting international sporting events, including the World Summer Universiade, the World Aquatics Championships, the FIFA World Cup, the Commonwealth of Independent States Games, the BRICS Games, and more. In Kazan, historical traditions and modernity are successfully intertwined, offering the conveniences of a metropolis and a hospitable atmosphere.
The International Mas-wrestling Federation, in cooperation with the All-Russian Mas-wrestling Federation and with the support of the Russian Ministry of Sports, intends to excellently organize the world championship for women and men across all weight categories, including the absolute division. Preliminary discussions involve the participation of trained mas-wrestlers from at least 40 countries worldwide.
