Athletes from 26 countries to compete in EEF 2025 international tournaments
The main programme of the EEF Sports Games was preceded by international surfing competitions on Kunashir Island in the Sakhalin Region. Sixteen athletes from Russia, Australia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Portugal, and South Africa caught waves in one of the most remote and picturesque places in Russia. The All-Russian Surfing Federation divided the participants into four teams, named after the largest islands of the Kuril Ridge: Paramushir, Iturup, Shikotan, and Kunashir. The victory went to the Kunashir team, which included Russian surfers Egor Volkov, Ilya Novikov, Anna Tikhonova, and Uriel Sposaro from Brazil.
Rowers from Russia, China, Cuba, Serbia, Iran, Pakistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan will take part in the 4th International Vladivostok Regatta. The Russian team will include European champion Ekaterina Zhevlechenko, Russian champions Viktoria Luganskaya, Violetta Zinina, and other leading athletes. For the second year in a row, the competition will be held in a new Olympic discipline: coastal rowing.
The Pacific Curling Cup will also be held for the fourth time. Men’s and women’s teams from Russia, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey will play at the new specialized curling arena, ‘Dom So Ldom’ (House with Ice), construction of which began at the 2019 Eastern Economic Forum.
“With the support of the Roscongress Foundation, sports federations use the EEF platform to strengthen international cooperation and promote and develop their sports in the Far East. At the same time, spectacular tournaments also effectively showcase the beauty and traditions of the Far East,” said Daria Silaeva, Head of Sports and Entertainment Events Directorate at the Roscongress Foundation.
The international mas-wrestling tournament ‘Yakutia Railways Cup’ will add an Eastern flavour to the EEF sports programme. Sixteen athletes from 14 countries will take part in the competition in this national Yakut sport. The 2025 World Championship winners Saule Egyzbaeva (Kyrgyzstan), Baasansuren Damdinsuren (Mongolia), Varnel Jarnie Kimpedi (Congo), Zacarias Chioca and Leticia Chioca (both from Angola) will come to Vladivostok.
The competition will be complemented by master classes on the Yakut board games ‘khabylik’ and ‘haamyska’. The tournament is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. In conclusion, atheletes will participate in a Victory Waltz on the embankment, plus a concert entitled ‘Peace to the World’ will be held, during which songs from the war years will be performed in various languages.
The EEF sports programme has been developed by the Roscongress Foundation’s sports platform.
The 10th Eastern Economic Forum will be held on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. This year’s main theme is ‘The Far East: Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity’.
