Mas-Wrestling Highlights in Bangladesh | Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026

More than 200 athletes representing 30 educational institutions and sports organizations from across Bangladesh participated in the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026, held today at the Russian House in Dhaka.
The championship was jointly organized by the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association (IEBA) and the Russian House in Dhaka.

The championship featured a range of ethnosport disciplines, with Mas-Wrestling attracting particular interest among both athletes and spectators. The competition provided a valuable platform for young athletes to demonstrate strength, discipline, determination, and sportsmanship, while contributing to the continued development of Bangladesh's engagement with the international ethnosport movement.

Delivering the welcome address, Md. Al Mamun, President of the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association and Bangladesh Representative to the International Mas-Wrestling Federation, a distinguished international sports diplomat and organizer and a pioneering figure in the development & promotion of ethnosports in Bangladesh, highlighted the growing global significance of ethnosports as a powerful platform for cultural exchange, youth development, the preservation of traditional sporting heritage, and international cooperation. He underscored the importance of creating greater opportunities for Bangladeshi athletes to compete at the international level, gain valuable competitive experience, and strengthen Bangladesh’s engagement with the global ethnosport community.

The championship was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including Mr. İslam Güre, General Manager of Turkish Airlines Inc. in Dhaka; Mr. Ashiq Imran, Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chittagong; Mr. Kazim Karabacak, Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in Bangladesh; Md Ekramul Kabir, Vice President, International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association and Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Mr. Sergey Nacharov, Attaché at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People's Republic of Bangladesh; and Mr. Mahfuzul Alam Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, emphasized the important role of ethnosports in preserving cultural heritage and fostering friendship, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connections among nations. She commended the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association for its growing contribution to the development and promotion of ethnosports in Bangladesh and encouraged Bangladeshi athletes to participate in the upcoming World Mas-Wrestling Championship in the Russian Federation.

The Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026 marked another significant milestone in the development of ethnosports in Bangladesh. In particular, the championship expanded opportunities for young athletes to experience traditional sporting disciplines, develop competitive skills, and strengthen their connections with the wider international ethnosport community.
